Wine Cabinets: Decorative Storage for Bottles, Glasses & Accessories
Although wine cabinets may seem self-explanatory, the truth is that many people underestimate the effect this type of furniture can have on presentation and storage of wine. At one time, wine cabinets were a must-have accessory in a majority of households until more modern storage options became available on the market, specifically wine coolers, credenzas and storage racks.
As home decor trends change, the general design of wine cabinets have followed suit to reflect the ever-evolving tastes of casual drinkers and connoisseurs. Although different storage options have grown in popularity, wine cabinets are often still made with similar characteristics to their original Victorian counterparts, complete with glass-front doors and integrated drawers to keep small accessories close by. While the look has evolved over time, what hasn't changed is the signature function of a wine cabinet, storing unopened wine bottles and various types of glassware.
Why You Should Consider a Wine Cabinet
Much like storage racks and credenzas, a wine cabinet is a functional piece of furniture that not only stores your wine, but does so in a way that adds to the overall decor of your home. Despite the passage of time, the primary benefits of a wine cabinet have not changed. As a matter of necessity, one of the main features you will find in any piece is an area for storing bottles. This not only acts as a display for your wine collection, but also helps create the optimal environment to help the aging process.
Aside from storing unopened bottles, the majority of cabinets are designed to include an area for storing your favorite stemware as well. Often seen as an upside down glass rack, these allow you the convenience of keep stemware close so you can easily pour yourself a glass whenever you'd like. These two compartments generally take up the largest amount of space in a wine cabinet. However, you will likely come across cabinet designs that include a drawer or small compartment to store other essential tools, such as a bottle opener.
Wine cabinets are more than just storage. You can also utilize the flat surface of a wine cabinet for a serving table for trays of food, cheese or other refreshments. In fact, the smooth surface can be used for much more than just a place to serve food. From ice makers to decanters to bottles of liquor, a wine cabinet is often used as a central location for a home bar or entertaining area.
Finding the Best Wine Cabinet for Your Home
When it comes to buying a wine cabinet for your home, you certainly have plenty of options to choose from. To find the best wine cabinet, we would recommend thinking about how you plan on using it, as well as how much space you have available in your home. Once you know this, think about what will look best with the decor in your home? You are no longer limited to the same familiar look and feel of traditional wine cabinets.
A tall and slim wine tower is a great choice for smaller homes. This allows you to maximize your storage without taking up too much floor space in your home. Or perhaps a wine cabinet with rolling wheels is the better option, as you can move it from room to room with ease. Small countertop or corner units are also a great choice for smaller homes, as you can easily fit them into those little nooks in your home. The oak barrel cabinet is another style that is growing in popularity. Designed to appeal to the historic tradition of winemaking, this type of wine cabinet resembles a fermentation barrel, but has a small compartment built-in that allows you to store your bottles, glassware and accessories. These tend to be larger, and oftentimes feature a tabletop to give it more functionality.
No matter which features or style you like best, what truly matters is how your wine cabinet functions in your home. If it creates a convenient and welcome environment for you to store and pour a glass of wine, all while improving the decor of your home, then you made the right choice.

General Summary of Proposition 65
The “California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986” (more commonly referred to as ‘Proposition 65’)
was enacted to ensure that customers be properly warned when a product contains a substance known to cause cancer or
reproductive harm. The law requires the State of California to publish and maintain (annually) a list of substances
to be available to the general public. Additionally, the law requires that businesses properly notify residents of
the State of California about the presence of these substances in the products they purchase, or that may be present
in their homes, workplaces, or that otherwise may be released into the environment. The specific list contains a wide
range of naturally occurring and synthetic substances including manufacturing and construction chemicals, pesticides,
tobacco, food-additives, solvents, household products, drugs and byproducts created from a specific product usage.
You may have noticed the below warning label on our products, or on products from other manufacturers. The warning
has become increasingly commonplace and oftentimes raises questions about why the warning exists, and what it means
to a customer. The warning itself is just one of many requirements for businesses operating in and/or selling products
to customers in the the State of California. The warning does not mean that a product that includes the warning will
cause cancer or reproductive harm, but rather it simply is provided in order to educate the consumer that a substance
may exist. A large number of the substances listed under Proposition 65 have been in regular use for many years
without any documented harm to a consumer. This is due to the low concentrations and minimal exposure that actually
occurs with these substances. Those chemicals, however, have been determined by the State of California to be listed
as potentially harmful.
I don’t live in California. Why did my product include this warning?
In order to ensure compliance with Proposition 65 requirements we have determined that all products manufactured by
Living Direct Inc, including products sold under the EdgeStar, Avallon and Koldfront brands, should include the
above-referenced warning label. This labeling requirements exists for all of our products regardless of the
location / destination to which the product is ultimately sold and/or shipped.
We believe that our products, when used as designed, are not harmful and as such this warning is provided
in order to properly conform to the requirements of Proposition 65.
